What is generic Viagra?
Viagra is the original brand of sildenafil citrate, developed by Pfizer. “Generic Viagra” means another medicine with the same active ingredient — sildenafil — sold under its generic name or a different brand.
Kamagra (made by Ajanta Pharma), Cenforce (Centurion Laboratories) and Fildena (Fortune Healthcare) are generic sildenafil brands made in India. The active ingredient is the same, but the manufacturer, packaging, inactive ingredients and tablet appearance differ. Sharing an active ingredient also doesn't give these brands the UK regulatory status, manufacturing controls or authorisation that Viagra and licensed generic sildenafil have.

- Never take sildenafil with nitrate medicines (such as GTN spray or isosorbide for angina) or poppers — together they can cause a dangerous drop in blood pressure.
- Take no more than one dose in 24 hours.
- The usual starting dose is 50mg and the standard maximum is 100mg. Strengths above 100mg exceed standard licensed dosing and make side effects more likely, so they are never a starting dose.
- Sildenafil is for adult men. It isn't an approved treatment for women or anyone under 18.
- See a doctor before using sildenafil if you have a heart, liver or kidney condition, or take other regular medicines.
- Read the patient information leaflet before your first dose.
- Get urgent medical help for an erection lasting more than 4 hours, sudden loss of vision or hearing, or chest pain.
